From the 15th to the 19th of April 2024, Emphasys Centre successfully hosted the C1 Mobility – Hackathons as part of the Erasmus+ KA2 VET project titled “SmartAInnovators: Promoting AI-Driven Digital Transformation and Innovation in VET Schools for Social Change and Better Skills Match with the Labour Market.” This event marked a significant milestone in the project, bringing together students, VET trainers, and industry experts to engage in hands-on learning, collaboration, and innovation, all centered around the application of AI technologies and digital skills in the vocational education and training (VET) sector.
The C1 Mobility aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to develop AI-driven solutions that address real-world challenges, bridging the gap between education and the labor market. The hackathons provided a dynamic platform for students and trainers to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Throughout the week-long event, students and trainers participated in intensive training sessions focused on the UNITY software, a leading platform for game development and simulation. The training was designed to build participants’ competencies in AI, coding, and digital design, providing them with the tools needed to create innovative game simulations. These sessions were led by experienced professionals who guided the participants through the process of designing, developing, and refining their projects.
Participants were divided into teams, each tasked with conceptualizing and developing their own game simulations. The collaborative environment encouraged cross-disciplinary learning, as students with diverse skill sets—from coding to graphic design—worked together to bring their ideas to life. The focus on UNITY software allowed participants to explore the full potential of AI technologies in a creative context, enhancing their understanding of how these tools can be applied to solve complex problems in the real world.
A key highlight of the C1 Mobility was the organized visit to the University of Nicosia, a leading institution known for its advanced research and innovation in digital technologies. During the visit, participants attended a specialized training session delivered by university faculty members. The session provided insights into the latest developments in AI and digital transformation, with a particular focus on their applications in education and industry.
On the final day of the Hackathon, the winning teams were announced in a celebratory event. The winners were recognized for their outstanding contributions and innovative solutions, receiving accolades from both the judges and their peers. The recognition of their hard work and creativity served as a powerful motivator for all participants, reinforcing the importance of continued learning and innovation in the field of AI and digital transformation.
